When you own a shopping center you want to ensure two things: 1) that you always have tenants; 2) that you always have customers. Because the only way that you will get more tenants is if you have a consistent number of customers walking around, the best thing that you can do is appease them. But how? With so much stimulation that people get from merely looking at their cellphones, you may think that giving them an experience while shopping at your mall may be hard, but it doesn't have to be.
Think About Food
Food is one of the best ways to drive people to come to your restaurant; especially when you have good food. Whether you have a bunch of restaurants sprinkled throughout your mall, or you have an area for food trucks, it's nice to have some variety of types of food and prices of food for everyone to enjoy. For instance, you not only want to have a few dine-in restaurants that are a bit pricier, but you will want to have some fast-food or take-out options for people who are on the go.
Whether your shopping center is somewhere warm and tropical, or somewhere that gets all four seasons, having an outdoor space is something that will help people flock to your mall. For instance, if you have an entire outdoor shopping center, it will encourage people to come to shop even if they just want to be outside. If you do live in a place that gets a lot of rain, wind, or snow, then consider just adding in an outdoor spot that can be used during warmer months but still keep the majority of things indoors. If you do have an indoor mall, consider having something like a glass ceiling installed so it gives shoppers the illusion that they are outside without them actually having to step outdoors.
You want to be able to attract both shoppers who like high-end things and ones who are more into bargain shopping. When you have a diverse amount amount of shops, you can appeal to just about everyone who walks through your shopping mall's doors. Also, try to get a mixture of local shops and larger retailers in your shopping center as well so that you can support all parts of the economy and help all of your shoppers find exactly what they want without having to leave your mall to shop elsewhere.
